All members of the programme are responsible for knowing the definitions of the types of academic dishonesty and the consequences of these actions. Paul R Smith Middle School Cambridge Students will not participate in any of the following acts of academic dishonesty:
• Plagiarism – the failure to acknowledge sources properly and/or the submission of another person’s work as if it were the candidate’s own.
• Collusion – allowing one’s work to be copied, in part or in whole, and/or submitted for assessment by another.
• Duplication of work – presentation of the same work for different assessment components in the same or different courses.
• Or any other behavior that gains an unfair advantage over another candidate.
The severity of the circumstances will guide the consequences, which are, but will not be limited to:
• 1st incident – zero on assignment, contact parents, document in school Cambridge file.
• 2nd incident – will result in a discipline referral and may result in dismissal from the program.
During the programme Cambridge students will take high stakes assessments to earn their Cambridge Diploma and college credits. The Cambridge Programme has specific guidelines for any student who commits malpractice during an assessment. These guidelines are as follows:
(a) We, at our discretion, may impose sanctions and penalties against candidates found to have broken the regulations.
(b) Heads of Centres retain sole discretion to take any further action that they deem appropriate in cases of candidate irregularity.
(c) We will apply sanctions in order to reflect the particular circumstances of each case and any mitigating factors.
(d) As we make no assumptions on intended actions, penalties are only based on the evidence presented.
(e) All penalties must be justifiable, reasonable in their scale and consistent in their application.
(f) Penalties will only apply to the series in which the offence has been committed and possible future series. (If evidence comes to light some considerable time after the offense, we may still apply a penalty to the series in which the offense was committed and to a later series.)
I understand the rules of the Paul R Smith Middle School Cambridge Programme Academic Honesty Policy and agree to adhere to the expectations stated above. I have been given the opportunity to review this policy and understand the consequences listed. I understand that any infraction violating the Cambridge terms surrounding malpractice on internal and external assessment components will be elevated to review by Cambridge personnel. The consequences will be carried out, as directed, by Paul R Smith Middle school and Cambridge regardless of whether first or subsequent incident. I agree to act in accordance with this policy.
