In order to protect the health and safety of employees, staff, and students, all those who access Pasco County School locations must self-screen for symptoms and other risk factors of COVID-19 daily. If you answer YES to any of the questions, you should NOT be on campus. Access the Visitor Screener or the Student Screener online. Employees should use the Employee Self-Screener.

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding an in person 8th grade promotion ceremony for students this year. In order to make
this a safe and enjoyable event for every family, we would like to share some important information with you.

Based upon our district re-opening plan, we are limited to the number of guests that may attend the 8th promotion ceremony per student in
order to provide a safe and socially distant in person event for our students. For this reason, our 8th grade promotion ceremony will be
separated into two cohorts. Based upon the size and capacity of our gymnasium, guests limits per child will be no more than 3.

Entry into the event will require families to employ the following:

  • Guests should not enter an event if they are feeling ill or have been in close contact with someone with COVID
within the last 10 days (please see the visitors screener located at the top of the school’s website).
  • Guests must wear a facemask/covering at all times during indoor events.
  • Guests must be restricted from students and personnel before, during, and after events.
  • Guests should not congregate in walkways, hallways, common traffic areas, or gymnasiums before, after or during event.
  • Guests must always practice physical distancing with those outside of their direct families, and sit in family pods at all
    events.

If you do not wish to attend this event in person, we will be providing a live stream on our Paul R. Smith Middle School Facebook page.
**Please be aware that we cannot guarantee that there will not be technical difficulties with a live stream.**

In order for a student to participate in our 8th grade promotion ceremony, the following conditions must be met:

  • All middle school students are under the State mandated promotion rules, according to the State of Florida rules, middle school students
must successfully complete English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies each year (6th- 8th) to be promoted to
high school. Successful completion of these courses require the earning of a grade of “D” or higher. Your child will also be required
to complete a Civics course and career component before leaving eighth grade and being promoted to high school.
  • If your child is not in promotion status, there is still time. Students may recover a course through our Course Recovery class during the
school day, or through Extended School day. If a child is taking an online course for their core subject area, they must be on track for
completion of the course(s) by the end of the school year and fulfilled all three years of the subject area. Please contact Ms. Lux, School
Counselor or Mr. Ebert, SSAP teacher to review your child’s promotion status.

Please fill out the form linked here and return it to the school no later than April 23, 2021.
